All Apex Legends characters by class and release
Who belongs where? The complete Apex character list below groups all 28 legends by their current class, with their original release season and year. A rework does not change a character's release date.

Searching specifically for Apex Legends female characters? The roster includes Bangalore, Mad Maggie, Alter, Ash, Axle, Horizon, Wraith, Valkyrie, Vantage, Catalyst, Rampart, Wattson, Conduit, Lifeline and Loba. Their classes and abilities vary widely, so gender won't tell you how a character plays. Their individual backgrounds appear in the official EA character profiles.
How Apex Legends classes work in Season 30
What does a class actually give you? Each class adds shared perks on top of a legend's passive, tactical and ultimate. Those perks affect inventory space, information, movement or recovery.
| Class | Legends | Current Season 30 perks |
|---|---|---|
| Assault | 5 | Combat Reserve: +1 extra ammo per inventory stack and two grenade-only slots. Stowed Reload: holstered weapons automatically reload after about two seconds. Battle Surge: cracking a shield grants faster reloads and a sprint-speed burst; the enemy's health bar remains visible for three seconds. |
| Skirmisher | 7 | Inspect Care Packages to identify their best item and whether they have been looted. Allies running toward you from at least 20 meters away receive a speed boost. Knocking an enemy grants 50 HP of regeneration, restoring health before shields. |
| Recon | 6 | Scan Survey Beacons to reveal enemies on the minimap within roughly 500 meters, using three pulses over 15 seconds. Threat Vision highlights visible enemies while aiming down sights. |
| Controller | 4 | Use Ring Consoles to reveal the next ring, then activate a console again to create a tall custom EVAC Tower. Zone Overcharge adds 25 shield capacity and slow shield regeneration inside the safe zone. Controllers can rebuild or reinforce Hardlight meshes, with four reinforced at once, and remotely retrieve deployed tacticals. |
| Support | 6 | Revive Expert: revive about 25% faster and grant the revived teammate health regeneration. Collecting a teammate's banner card, whether crafted or recovered from a deathbox, also grants a Mobile Respawn Beacon. |
Still looking for red or blue supply bins? Season 30 removed red Weapon Supply Bins and blue Extended Supply Bins, so Assault and Support no longer have those bin perks. The Marked patch notes cover the change. Ammo also changed that season; the Season 30 energy ammo rework explains that separate adjustment.
Who can craft banners, and which class finds the ring? Every legend can craft teammate banners, a rule in place since Season 23. Recon Survey Beacons reveal enemies; Controller Ring Consoles reveal the next ring. Recon Threat Vision also needs line of sight: it does not see through walls or smoke.
Does Fortified belong to an entire class? No. Gibraltar, Caustic and Newcastle have it individually, reducing damage to their bodies and legs by 15% and preventing slows from incoming fire. A useful distinction: choosing Support does not automatically give you Gibraltar's damage reduction.
Assault characters
Ballistic
Ballistic is August Montgomery Brinkman, a veteran competitor from Gaea who arrived in Season 17. Want a third weapon without giving up your usual pair? His sling provides it, while Tempest helps nearby teammates keep firing.
- Passive: Sling. Carries a third weapon without attachments. Since Season 29.1, Ballistic also respawns with his sling weapon.
- Tactical: Whistler. Fires a homing projectile that overheats an enemy's weapon. Firing while overheated deals 50 damage to the target. Whistler has two charges.
- Ultimate: Tempest. Gives nearby teammates faster reloads, infinite ammunition and a sprint boost. Ballistic's sling weapon becomes gold for the duration.
Bangalore
Anita Williams comes from Gridiron and has been playable since Season 0. Need to cross a watched lane or break an enemy's view? Bangalore's smoke can create that opening, but it also blocks your teammates' sightlines.
- Passive: Double Time. Taking fire while sprinting grants a brief speed boost.
- Tactical: Smoke Launcher. Fires a canister that bursts into a smoke wall. Since Season 26, the projectile can break through doors.
- Ultimate: Rolling Thunder. Calls an artillery strike that advances across an area, forcing enemies to move or risk the explosions.
Fuse
Fuse is Walter Fitzroy Jr. from Salvo, introduced in Season 8. Is his ultimate still the old ring of fire? No: his Season 28 rework changed The Motherlode into a mortar attack. His kit now combines explosive pressure with a built-in Knuckle Jump.
- Passive: Grenadier. Carries an extra grenade per slot and throws grenades farther and faster. Since September 15, he also takes 25% less explosive damage and sees ordnance highlighted within 30 meters.
- Tactical: Knuckle Cluster. Fires a cluster bomb that releases repeated airburst explosions. Knuckle Jump is now part of the base kit, allowing Fuse to jump from his own cluster for an explosive boost.
- Ultimate: The Motherlode. Fires a mortar that scatters smaller bombs around its landing point. Aiming down sights produces a cover-piercing shot that can penetrate roughly 13 meters.
Which changes matter most for a returning Fuse player? The mortar and base-kit jump deserve attention before any upgrade choice. His September retune also makes nearby ordnance easier to find, as detailed in the Marked midseason patch notes.
Mad Maggie
Margaret Kōhere, another fighter from Salvo, joined in Season 12. What if an enemy keeps healing behind the same piece of cover? Maggie can burn through it with Riot Drill, then use her shotgun movement and Wrecking Ball to close space.
- Passive: Warlord's Ire. Briefly highlights enemies she damages and increases her movement speed with shotguns.
- Tactical: Riot Drill. Attaches a drill to cover and burns enemies on the other side. Its cooldown is 28 seconds following Season 29.1.
- Ultimate: Wrecking Ball. Throws a ball that drops speed pads and detonates near enemies. The pads now provide a sprint-only speed boost.
Revenant
Revenant was once Kaleb Cross and entered the roster in Season 4. Looking for his silence or Death Totem? Those belong to his older kit. The Season 18 "Revenant Reborn" rework gave him a pounce and protective shadows, making him suited to closing on damaged opponents.
- Passive: Assassin's Instinct. Highlights nearby low-health enemies, improves wall climbing and increases crouch-walking speed.
- Tactical: Shadow Pounce. Launches Revenant forward. Holding the ability charges a longer pounce; its maximum velocity was reduced in Season 27.
- Ultimate: Forged Shadows. Surrounds him with hardened shadows that absorb damage and regenerate. Knocking an enemy restarts that regeneration.

Skirmisher characters
Alter
Alter is YingLing Lui, introduced in Season 21; her home world remains unknown. Need to reach the other side of a wall without using its doorway? Void Passage gives her that option, while Void Nexus provides a route back to a regroup point.
- Passive: Gift from the Rift. Remotely takes one item from a deathbox, excluding shield cores. She can also remotely collect teammate banners.
- Tactical: Void Passage. Opens a portal through a surface. Its cooldown is 25 seconds.
- Ultimate: Void Nexus. Places a regroup point that allies can remotely activate to phase back to it from within 250 meters.
Ash
Dr. Ashleigh Reid arrived in Season 11 and is now a Skirmisher. Does she still fit a fast, coordinated push? Yes: her dash, tether and targeted portal let her change position and pressure an enemy quickly. The catch is that Phase Breach only goes one way.
- Passive: Predator's Pursuit. Performs a mid-air dash, an ability added in Season 24.
- Tactical: Arc Snare. Throws a spinning snare that damages and tethers the first enemy who gets close.
- Ultimate: Phase Breach. Opens a one-way portal to a targeted location.
Axle
Axle is Isa Wegner, a Salvo native who joined in Season 29 "Overclocked" on May 5, 2026. Still using launch-day movement advice? Her slide control, gate speed and drone have all changed. She remains focused on sliding and displacement, but tight corners now demand more care.
- Passive: Drift. Improves sliding acceleration, speed and control. The October 1 update reduced her passive's lateral sliding control by 50%.
- Tactical: Nitro Gate. Forces anyone passing through it, including enemies, into a boosted slide. The base boost lasts three seconds. Base limits are two deployed gates with 100 HP each.
- Ultimate: Kickstart. Sends an enemy-seeking drone that damages, reveals, briefly stuns and displaces targets. It also damages, stuns and displaces Axle; allies suffer the stun and displacement without damage.
What changed most recently? Nitro Gate's initial push speed fell to 650, lateral slide control for gate users dropped by 25%, and aim assist is disabled while a player is under the gate's effect. Kickstart now chases for at most eight seconds, its maximum knock-up fell to 650, and an immediate lock-on after deployment produces much less lift. The October 1 update gives the exact changes.
What about her cooldowns and upgrades? The Kickstart drone currently has 150 HP, a 120-second base cooldown and a 0.25-second stun. Level 2 offers Sliding Shooter or Long Haul, which restores a five-second slide boost. Level 3 offers Super Slider or Drone Deployer; the latter reduces the ultimate cooldown to 90 seconds. Super Slider reduces the tactical cooldown by five seconds and permits one extra deployed gate, rather than adding a second charge. The full Axle nerfs from the October 1 update explain the movement changes in more detail.
Horizon
Horizon is Dr. Mary Somers, introduced in Season 7. Need a way to contest height with your squad? Gravity Lift provides vertical movement, while Black Hole pulls nearby opponents together. Strong tools for changing an angle, although going upward does not remove the need for cover.
- Passive: Spacewalk. Improves air control and softens landings.
- Tactical: Gravity Lift. Creates a column of reversed gravity that lifts players and boosts them outward. The ability received buffs in Season 27.
- Ultimate: Black Hole. Deploys N.E.W.T., a device that creates a micro black hole and pulls nearby players inward.
Octane
Octavio Silva comes from Psamathe and joined in Season 1. Want frequent movement without waiting for an ultimate? Stim gives Octane that freedom at a health cost. His Launch Pad also moves teammates, so his useful plays needn't end with him arriving somewhere alone.
- Passive: Swift Mend. Regenerates health while Octane is not taking damage.
- Tactical: Stim. Trades health for increased walking and sprinting speed. EA's current description also identifies a Stim Surge triggered by using Stim twice.
- Ultimate: Launch Pad. Places a jump pad that launches anyone who uses it and allows a double jump in the air.
Pathfinder
EA lists his real name simply as Pathfinder; MRVN is his model designation. He comes from Psamathe and has been available since Season 0. Want personal movement and a route your whole team can use? His grapple and zipline cover both.
- Passive: Insider Knowledge. Scanning a Care Package, Ring Console or Survey Beacon restores 25% of his ultimate charge and permanently reduces its cooldown by 10 seconds.
- Tactical: Grappling Hook. Pulls Pathfinder toward terrain and out-of-reach positions. It has two charges and a flat 20-second cooldown.
- Ultimate: Zipline Gun. Creates a zipline anyone can ride. Riders take 50% less damage while it is energized. Its base cooldown is two minutes.
Wraith
Wraith is Renee Hope Blasey from Typhon, one of the Season 0 legends. Does her tactical move the whole squad? No, that's her ultimate's job. Into the Void protects Wraith during a reposition, while Dimensional Rift connects two locations for teammates.
- Passive: Voices from the Void. Warns Wraith when danger approaches.
- Tactical: Into the Void. Lets her reposition through void space while immune to damage. Its cooldown is 15 seconds.
- Ultimate: Dimensional Rift. Creates linked portals that the team can use to travel between two points. Its cooldown is 90 seconds.

Recon characters
Bloodhound
Bloodhound's name is listed by EA as Blódhundr. They come from Talos and have been playable since Season 0. Expecting Beast of the Hunt? Their Season 30 rework replaced it with Allfather's Cloak, shifting their ultimate toward concealed movement.
- Passive: Tracker. Shows traversal and elimination clues, with a red trail leading to fresh evidence. White Ravens can guide Bloodhound toward the nearest enemy up to 400 meters away, activate when looked at briefly and restore 20% ultimate charge.
- Tactical: Eye of the Allfather. Sends a cone-shaped sonar scan through structures to reveal enemies, traps and clues, followed by repeated snapshot scans.
- Ultimate: Allfather's Cloak. Throws a device that creates an eight-second cloaking area. Anyone entering it, including enemies, receives a cloak, a speed boost and Threat Vision. The cloak can persist for 12 seconds after leaving.
Does the cloak survive a fight? Shooting, taking damage and using most abilities break it, although Bloodhound's own abilities do not. Ring damage also no longer breaks the cloak. At Level 3, True Predator changes shooting into a brief interruption, allowing the cloak to return after one second.
How reliable are the trailing silhouettes? Eye of the Allfather's follow-up snapshots show information that can become stale as an enemy moves. September's adjustment makes them fade faster and clear sooner once the real player becomes visible. Treat the scan as information to act on, not a promise that someone is still standing there.
Crypto
Crypto is Tae Joon Park, a Gaea native introduced in Season 3. Need to collect information or interact with a beacon from a distance? His drone handles several jobs that usually require a player to approach on foot. The practical issue is timing: a useful scan still needs teammates ready to act.
- Passive: Neurolink. Shares enemies detected by the drone within 30 meters with Crypto and his squad.
- Tactical: Surveillance Drone. Deploys a flying camera that can interact with Survey Beacons, Respawn Beacons, EVO Harvesters and teammate banners. Crypto is cloaked while piloting it.
- Ultimate: Drone EMP. Deals 50 shield damage, slows enemies and destroys traps around the drone.
Seer
Obi Edolasim comes from Boreas and joined in Season 10. Want information during a close fight? Seer tracks heartbeats, reveals enemies with his tactical and monitors movement inside Exhibit. His tactical no longer applies the turn-slow removed on August 25, 2026.
- Passive: Heart Seeker. Lets Seer hear and see indicators of nearby enemy heartbeats while aiming down sights.
- Tactical: Focus of Attention. Sends a delayed micro-drone blast through walls that silences and reveals enemies. It also grants Seer a speed boost.
- Ultimate: Exhibit. Creates a dome that reveals enemies who move quickly or fire inside it. Placement triggers a brief scan, and Seer can double jump within the dome.
Sparrow
Sparrow is Enea Davide Guarino from Psamathe, added in Season 25 "Prodigy" on May 6, 2025. Want Recon information with extra movement? His double jump and climbing launch let him change angles while Tracker Dart watches a route. A useful pairing, provided the dart actually has sight of the approach.
- Passive: Double Jump. Grants a second jump in mid-air, a launch upward while climbing walls and extra capacity for explosive Bocek arrows.
- Tactical: Tracker Dart. Places a dart that reveals enemies entering its line of sight. It can also activate Survey Beacons from range.
- Ultimate: Stinger Bolt. Fires a large anchored arrow that charges before repeatedly shocking, damaging and slowing enemies within range.
Planning to make him your main? The Sparrow badge guide walks through getting 20 kills and 4K damage on him. Start by learning where a dart can watch an approach without losing line of sight.
Valkyrie
Valkyrie is Kairi Imahara from Angelia, introduced in Season 9. Is she a Skirmisher because she flies? No, she is currently Recon. Her jetpack handles personal movement, while Skyward Dive relocates teammates who attach before launch.
- Passive: VTOL Jets. Provides jetpack flight and Threat Vision while airborne. Season 27 improved flight speed and fuel recharge.
- Tactical: Missile Swarm. Fires rockets that damage, disorient and briefly scan targets. Season 30 reduced base damage from 25 to 15, and missiles no longer dive over tall cover.
- Ultimate: Skyward Dive. Launches Valkyrie and attached allies into a skydive. Season 30 reduced launch height by 15%.
Vantage
Xiomara "Mara" Contreras comes from Págos and joined in Season 14. Prefer to inspect a squad before moving closer? Vantage can scout health and shields, mark targets and reposition toward Echo. Useful at range, though a marked enemy still needs someone ready to shoot.
- Passive: Spotter's Lens. Provides health and shield information, squad-tracking pings and bullet-drop markers while scouting through sights. Tracking a team builds 70% of an ultimate bullet.
- Tactical: Echo Relocation. Positions her bat, Echo, then launches Vantage toward him. Its cooldown is 17 seconds.
- Ultimate: Sniper's Mark. Equips a custom sniper rifle whose marks increase damage taken from Vantage's team. It includes a 2x Canted Sight mode.

Controller characters
Catalyst
Catalyst is Tressa Crystal Smith from Boreas, introduced in Season 15. Need to hold a doorway or cut a sightline? Her ferrofluid reinforces doors, punishes approaches and creates a wall that disrupts enemies passing through. Since September's buffs, teammates can cross Dark Veil without its slow or partial blindness.
- Passive: Barricade. Reinforces up to four doors and locks them against enemies. The Ferro-Door upgrade raises that limit to six.
- Tactical: Piercing Spikes. Places ferrofluid that produces damaging spikes when enemies approach. Since September 15, it has a 15-second cooldown, deals projectile impact damage and automatically reinforces doors it hits.
- Ultimate: Dark Veil. Raises a permeable ferrofluid wall that slows and partially blinds enemies crossing it. Allies no longer suffer those effects.
Caustic
Caustic is Alexander Nox, a scientist from Gaea available since Season 0. Still looking for Nox Vision in his current passive slot? Field Research replaced it in Season 26, tying his upgrades to actions such as gassing enemies and scanning Ring Consoles.
- Passive: Field Research. Earns extra upgrade points from gassing opponents, opening deathboxes and scanning Ring Consoles. Caustic can obtain all four upgrades.
- Tactical: Nox Gas Trap. Places up to six canisters that release damaging gas. The gas grounds enemies, slowing them and draining movement cooldowns.
- Ultimate: Nox Gas Grenade. Covers a large area in Nox gas to pressure enemies or deny space.
Rampart
Ramya Parekh comes from Gaea and joined in Season 6. Is her passive still just an LMG reload bonus? No: Battle Modder also scales her walls with EVO level, and Season 30 added faster unlocking of locked hop-ups.
- Passive: Battle Modder. Increases magazine capacity and reload speed for LMGs and Sheila. Her walls gain health with EVO level, and locked hop-ups unlock 50% faster.
- Tactical: Amped Cover. Places a crouch-height wall with an upper shield that amplifies outgoing shots. It stores charge that allies can turn into a speed boost by vaulting. Season 30 increased wall health to 600/700/800 across EVO stages and shortened deployment by half a second.
- Ultimate: Mobile Minigun "Sheila". Equips a portable minigun or places it as a turret anyone can use. Season 30 increased her movement speed while spinning or firing Sheila.
Wattson
Wattson is Natalie Paquette from Solace, introduced in Season 2. Want to make an approach expensive without constantly shooting at it? Her fences slow and damage enemies, while her pylon supports a held position. Works better when the squad has already decided where to stay.
- Passive: Spark of Genius. Slowly regenerates shields. Ultimate Accelerants fully charge her ultimate.
- Tactical: Perimeter Security. Connects nodes with electrical fences that damage and slow enemies. Fences can electrify doors and reinforce or rebuild Hardlight.
- Ultimate: Interception Pylon. Destroys incoming ordnance, converts intercepted ordnance into Arc Stars, repairs shields and reinforces Hardlight within its area.

Support characters
Conduit
Conduit is Rowenna Valentina Coffey Divina from Nexus, introduced in Season 19. Need to help a teammate survive long enough to reach cover? Radiant Transfer supplies temporary shields, while Energy Barricade slows an enemy's approach.
- Passive: Savior's Speed. Increases sprint speed toward allies, banners and beacons outside tactical range. She receives an additional 5% when running toward Skirmishers.
- Tactical: Radiant Transfer. Sends regenerating temporary shields to an ally and herself. It has two charges and a 30-second cooldown.
- Ultimate: Energy Barricade. Deploys shield-jamming devices that damage and slow enemies. September's retune added faster deployment, a forward-line placement toggle and the Level 2 upgrades Concurrency and Jammed Up.
Gibraltar
Makoa Gibraltar comes from Solace and has been available since Season 0. Need a brief space to revive or reorganize? His dome blocks incoming and outgoing fire, buying time if enemies cannot immediately push inside. A pause in the shooting, not an empty room.
- Passive: Gun Shield and Momentum Boost. Aiming down sights deploys a protective gun shield. Maintaining maximum unarmed sprint for a few seconds activates Momentum Boost.
- Tactical: Dome of Protection. Places a dome that blocks fire in both directions. Its cooldown is 13 seconds.
- Ultimate: Defensive Bombardment. Calls a concentrated mortar strike onto a marked location. The March 2026 update increased its radius by 20%.
Lifeline
Lifeline is Ajay Che from Psamathe, one of the Season 0 legends. Expecting her old Care Package ultimate? Her Season 23 rework replaced that kit with Combat Glide and D.O.C. Halo. She can heal and revive while remaining active herself.
- Passive: Combat Glide. Lets Lifeline grab D.O.C. and glide briefly. D.O.C. can also revive teammates while Lifeline remains free to act.
- Tactical: D.O.C. Heal Drone. Heals nearby allies and can be assigned to follow a teammate.
- Ultimate: D.O.C. Halo. Throws D.O.C. to create a halo shield where everyone uses healing items faster.
Loba
Loba's full name is Loba Andrade, and she joined in Season 5. EA lists no home world for her. Running short on supplies after a fight? Black Market Boutique can help the squad recover nearby loot, while her bracelet provides a separate reposition.
- Passive: Eye for Quality. Sees epic and legendary loot through walls and can open vaults without a key.
- Tactical: Burglar's Best Friend. Throws a jump-drive bracelet and teleports Loba to its destination. Season 30 reduced equip time to 0.4 seconds, increased range by roughly 15% and increased travel speed by roughly 30%.
- Ultimate: Black Market Boutique. Places a device that collects nearby loot remotely. Ammunition, small healing items and banners are free picks. Season 30 reduced its cooldown from 150 to 120 seconds.
Mirage
Mirage is Elliott Witt from Solace, available since Season 0. Want an enemy to hesitate over which target is real? His controllable decoys create that uncertainty, while his passive helps during revives and respawns. A little confusion can buy time, but it still needs cover behind it.
- Passive: Now You See Me.... Cloaks Mirage while reviving teammates or using Respawn Beacons. When downed, he also briefly cloaks and produces a decoy.
- Tactical: Psyche Out. Sends out a holographic decoy that Mirage can control.
- Ultimate: Life of the Party. Creates a group of controllable decoys to confuse nearby opponents.
Newcastle
Newcastle is Jackson Williams from Gridiron, introduced in Season 13. What if a teammate falls just outside safe cover? He can drag them while reviving behind a shield, then use Mobile Shield or Castle Wall to protect the recovery.
- Passive: Retrieve the Wounded. Drags downed allies while reviving them behind a Revive Shield.
- Tactical: Mobile Shield. Deploys a drone that projects a movable energy shield.
- Ultimate: Castle Wall. Leaps toward an ally or targeted location and slams down a fortified wall.

Free legends and how to unlock the rest
Which Apex Legends characters are free from the start? Every account receives Bangalore, Bloodhound, Gibraltar, Lifeline, Pathfinder and Wraith by default. That covers four classes, but none of the default six is a Controller. Worth knowing if ring information and defensive setups are what interest you.
| Free legend | Class | What their kit offers |
|---|---|---|
| Bangalore | Assault | Smoke cover and artillery pressure |
| Bloodhound | Recon | Tracking, scans and cloaking |
| Gibraltar | Support | Protective dome and shielded gunplay |
| Lifeline | Support | Healing and D.O.C. revives |
| Pathfinder | Skirmisher | Grappling and team ziplines |
| Wraith | Skirmisher | Protected repositioning and linked portals |
How much does another legend cost? According to the current Apex Legends Wiki, each of the other 22 legends currently costs 12,000 Legend Tokens or 750 Apex Coins. That includes Caustic and Mirage, even though both were present at launch.
| Unlock method | Current cost per legend | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Legend Tokens | 12,000 | Spend tokens earned through account levels |
| Apex Coins | 750 | Spend premium currency |
Where do Legend Tokens come from? Account levels award 600 tokens per level from level 4 onward. At that rate, 12,000 tokens requires 20 token-paying level-ups if you start with no tokens. Short on time? With Apex account leveling a booster grinds the XP and you keep the Legend Tokens earned on the way.
Who should you unlock first? Choose a character who adds something you want to practice. A Controller gives your starting roster access to Ring Console perks, while another movement or Support legend offers a different way to perform an existing role. No need to buy several characters before learning what your free six already do.
- Try the default legends and identify which abilities you use naturally.
- Decide whether you want information, movement, defensive control or recovery.
- Read the current kit before spending tokens, especially for reworked legends.
- Choose one character to learn well enough that you can use their abilities under pressure.
Newest legends and what comes next
Who is the newest Apex legend? Axle, released on May 5, 2026, in Season 29 "Overclocked." She remains the newest character as of October 4, 2026. Season 30 added Bloodhound's rework instead of a new roster slot.
| Recent legend | Release season | Release date |
|---|---|---|
| Ballistic | Season 17 | May 9, 2023 |
| Conduit | Season 19 | October 31, 2023 |
| Alter | Season 21 | May 7, 2024 |
| Sparrow | Season 25 | May 6, 2025 |
| Axle | Season 29 | May 5, 2026 |
Does every season add a character? No. Recent releases have settled into roughly one new legend per year, with Alter, Sparrow and Axle arriving in consecutive years. Ballistic and Conduit both released in 2023, so the pattern has not always been identical.
What is planned for Season 31? EA's February 12, 2026 "Road Ahead" roadmap schedules legend reworks for Seasons 30 and 31. No new Season 31 legend has been officially announced as of October 4, and the character receiving that season's rework is also unannounced.
When is the next new character expected? The same roadmap places the next new legend in Season 32, alongside an overhaul of the Legend Class system. Those are announced plans, so neither the current class perks nor today's team-building advice should be treated as permanent.
When does Season 31 start? The wiki lists November 3, 2026 as Season 30's expected end date, suggesting a transition around then. EA hasn't confirmed that date yet. This page will be updated when Season 31 lands. Until then, the roster and abilities above reflect Season 30, Split 2.
Picking a legend for ranked
Which legend should you play in ranked? Start with the job your squad needs and a kit you can use reliably. For our current rankings of all 28, see the Apex Legends tier list for Season 30. A character with complicated movement does not help much if you cannot bring teammates along or survive the landing. First check the team's missing tools. And if you'd rather spend your time playing than grinding the ladder, our Apex Legends boosting services cover rank, badges and leveling.
A useful starting composition has three roles:
| Team role | Class to consider | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Information or ring planning | Recon or Controller | Can the team locate enemies or identify its next position? |
| Rotations and repositioning | Skirmisher | Can the chosen legend move teammates, or mainly themselves? |
| Recovery | Support | Can the squad protect a revive, restore resources or recover after a knock? |
Is one Recon or Controller, one Skirmisher and one Support compulsory? No, it is a practical starting point. Recon reveals enemy positions; Controller reveals the next ring. Those solve different problems. Likewise, Pathfinder's zipline moves a squad, while Ash's one-way portal creates a different commitment.
How do you turn that composition into something useful? Agree on simple actions before a fight. Decide who checks the beacon or console, who calls the rotation and who protects a revive. An Apex rank boost gets the account to the rank you want, while Apex Legends coaching is the better fit if you want to learn a new legend's timings yourself. Different goals, so pick the one that matches yours.
- Choose the information source. Use enemy scans or ring knowledge to make an actual decision.
- Check the rotation ability. Confirm that it can move everyone who needs to move.
- Plan the recovery. Identify cover for a revive before a teammate goes down.
- Keep abilities available for their job. A spent portal cannot help with the next crossing.
Should badges decide your pick? Treat them as a separate goal. The 20 kill and 4K damage badges concern match achievements, while Apex Predator badges by season concern ranked rewards. Neither tells you whether your squad has a usable rotation.
Will this composition advice survive Season 32? The basic questions about information, movement and recovery should remain useful, but EA plans to overhaul the class system then. Recheck the actual perks after that update before rebuilding your team around today's class labels.
