Key takeaways

QuestionShort answer
Does your rank reset on October 9?No. NetEase's rule since February 2025: no rank reset at the half-season. Rank and rank points carry over.
When does Season 10.5 start?Friday, October 9. The time isn't confirmed; NetEase's usual slot is 09:00 UTC.
Can you still earn the Season 10.0 Gold costume?Yes, with 10 ranked matches this half and Gold or higher when the half ends.
When is the real reset?Season 11, probably early or mid November (not yet dated). Placements start 3 divisions below your final rank.
What's still unknown? The Season 10.5 patch notes, balance changes and Gold costume.

Will Friday's update wipe your rank? Do the points you grinded since September 11 just vanish? Is there still time for the Gorr costume? Your rank and points stay put, and there's still time if you play this week. Older posts disagree, so here's what NetEase Games has written about the Marvel Rivals Season 10.5 rank reset, what's only expected and what still isn't out as of Tuesday, October 6.

Marvel Rivals Season 10.5 rank reset explained

Does your rank reset when Marvel Rivals Season 10.5 starts?

No. NetEase settled it in Dev Talk Vol. 11 on February 11, 2025, and its later patch notes build on that rule:

When the second half of the season begins, there will be no rank reset. Players will retain their ranks and scores from the end of the first half.

"Scores" means rank points, so a Diamond II player on Thursday is still Diamond II on Friday, with the same points. Finished your placements? Those carry over as well. The Season 5 patch notes say: "If you complete placement matches in the first half of the season, you'll keep that rank in the second half." Didn't finish them? Then you must complete them in the second half to be eligible for ranked rewards.

What carries over into Marvel Rivals Season 10.5

So what starts fresh on October 9? Only the 10-match count for the next Gold costume. Crests of Honor and nameplate frames wait for season end, and the real drop waits for Season 11.

Why will the top-500 cutoff look low on Friday? The new half opens a fresh leaderboard that only lists players once they play a match, so the One Above All cutoff reads low for a few days, then climbs back as the board refills. Our One Above All cutoff tracker logs that daily top-500 cutoff on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It's a display effect, not a reset.

Why some answers still say ranks reset mid season

Ever seen someone insist the half-season wipes your rank? They didn't invent it. Dev Talk Vol. 10 (February 10, 2025) announced a reset for the second half of Season 1 on February 21, 2025. Vol. 11 reversed it the next day, citing "the pressure associated with having a rank reset every half-season", but the Vol. 10 post still circulates, and that's where a lot of the confusion starts.

The rest comes from old full-season drops. In 2025 each full-season reset was calculated from your final .5 rank (9 divisions down into Season 2, 7 into Seasons 3 and 4), so the .5 update itself never touched your rank. Those flat drops are history, though. Since Season 5 the reset runs through placements, and any guide still quoting a flat 7-division drop is out of date.

Could NetEase change the rule this time? It could. The Season 9.5 notes in August announced no rank change at all, and any change for 10.5 would show up in its patch notes, which aren't out yet. Read them on October 9 before you trust anybody's answer, ours included.

Marvel Rivals Season 10.5 release date and expected start time

Is the date confirmed? Yes. The last column on NetEase's Season 10.0 roadmap, published September 9, is October 9, and it reads "Coming soon" and "Season 10.5". That's all it says. It fits the pattern: half seasons land four weeks in, and Season 9.5 arrived August 7, four weeks after Season 9.

Is the time confirmed? No. As of 08:20 UTC on October 6, NetEase hadn't posted the Season 10.5 patch notes. It does follow a habit. Seasons 5, 7, 8 and 10 all began at 09:00 UTC with about two hours of maintenance, and the last half-season update, Season 9.5, also started at 09:00 UTC on August 7. The Season 10 patch notes also end three things at exactly 09:00 UTC on October 9: the Cloak & Dagger - Dreamy Duo Bundle, the extended "Endgame Encore" event with its 20% Encore Coupon discount on MCU-themed costume bundles, and the Season 10 Twitch Drops for Squirrel Girl - Will of Galacta.

If NetEase keeps that usual slot, Season 10.5 should start at these local times on Friday:

CityExpected start (if 09:00 UTC)
Los Angeles02:00 PDT
New York05:00 EDT
São Paulo06:00
London10:00 BST
Berlin / Paris11:00 CEST
Beijing17:00
Tokyo18:00 JST
Sydney20:00 AEDT

That's expected, not announced, so play your first-half ranked games before Friday and the exact minute won't matter. Balance changes have lately come about three days early (August 4 for Season 9.5, September 8 for Season 10), so Season 10.5's are probably days away. They aren't public yet, and we're not gonna guess.

Marvel Rivals ranked rewards: the Gold costume deadline

How do Gold costumes work now? Since Season 5 it's "one costume per half-season", while Crests of Honor (Top 500 included) and nameplate frames are paid once, at season end. What's the condition for each half?

To earn the Gold tier costume reward for a half-season, you must complete 10 ranked matches in that season's half and finish at Gold rank or higher at the end of the half-season.

Splitting your matches across both halves can cost you a costume. Season-end rewards only need finished placements plus the required rank at season's end, so NetEase's own example (9 placement matches in the first half, the 10th in the second) earns the season-end rewards but not both Gold costumes. To get both costumes, play 10 ranked matches in each half.

The Season 10 notes name this half's costume: "Season 10.0 Gold-tier costume reward is Gorr the God Butcher - Gods' Graveyard." NetEase used the same ".0" wording when one costume per half began (Season 5.0's was Gambit - Sacrificial Pawn), which suggests a second Gold costume for Season 10.5. Nobody has named it yet. Expect it in the 10.5 notes.

Marvel Rivals Season 10 ranked rewards: two Gold costumes

Is that second costume certain? Not in writing. The Season 5 notes are the last place NetEase spelled out the 10-match rule, and the Season 9.5 notes skipped ranked rewards entirely. So confirm the 10.5 costume in the patch notes or the in-game Competitive rewards panel, and check your match count there too.

What you need by Friday depends on where you stand. Each division is 100 rank points, and Gold runs from 600 (Gold III) to 899.

  • 10+ matches, Gold or higher. Hold it until the half ends.
  • Gold or higher, under 10 matches. Finish them before the update. Matches after it count for the second half.
  • Below Gold. Reach Gold III (600 rank points) and 10 matches before the half ends.

Short of Gold before Friday? A Marvel Rivals rank boost puts a booster on Competitive for you, on your account or with you in duo queue, from Bronze to Eternity on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It works the same after the Season 11 placements if you want your old rank back.

Ranked rules that matter in a last-minute push

Planning a Thursday night ranked marathon? Two rules can cost you more than a lost match:

  • Penalties got stricter on September 17. NetEase's penalties announcement says repeat offenders get increasingly longer matchmaking suspensions, and Quick Match now has its own penalty tier. Punished for a genuine network or hardware disconnect? Appeal through Customer Support.
  • Party size depends on rank. Bronze to Grandmaster can queue in any party size except a five-stack; Celestial, Eternity and One Above All are solo or duo only.

Marvel Rivals Season 11 rank reset: when the real drop comes

When does the real reset hit? At Season 11, and there's no date yet. Full seasons have started eight to nine weeks apart (March 20, May 15, July 10, September 11), which points to early or mid November; our cutoff tracker estimates Season 10 ends around November 13. Estimate, not announcement. Season 11 is also the last stop for 2026 Championship Points in the Marvel Rivals Championship (MRC), per the Season 10 notes.

How does the reset work? NetEase's latest written rules, from the Season 5 notes:

  1. Your first 10 ranked matches of a new season are placement matches.
  2. Your starting estimate is last season's final rank minus 3 divisions.
  3. Celestial II or higher finishers start at Grandmaster II; Bronze III to Silver III finishers start at Bronze III.
  4. Placements can't put you above Celestial I or below Bronze III.
  5. While anyone in the party is in placements, parties cap at three players with a rank gap under 3 divisions.

Does your own play count? Since the Season 7 patch notes, yes: "Every placement match now tracks your individual performance (not tied to teammates). After ten placement matches, your rank will be adjusted between -100 and +100 competitive points based on your personal results and tier." That's up to one division either way.

Where would you start? The 3-division rule, worked out:

Final Season 10 rankSeason 11 placements start at
Diamond IIPlatinum II
Gold ISilver I
Celestial IGrandmaster II

Want your exact number? The Marvel Rivals ranks and reset calculator lists every rank with its rank points and shows where your placements start. Treat it as NetEase's latest written rules, not a promise. The Season 11 notes can change them, and nobody can guarantee a final placement.

Marvel Rivals Path to Doomsday: what Season 10.5 should bring

What's in Season 10.5? In writing, nothing yet. Several outlets report that NetEase said in its Season 10 Dev Vision video (Vol. 21, September 9) that Season 10.5 brings two Path to Doomsday modes, Infinity War and Endgame, and no new hero, which would make it the first .5 update without one. Reported and expected, then. Not confirmed.

Why two at once? Infinity War missed its August slot, and October was always Endgame's. Here's NetEase's March 3 roadmap next to what shipped:

Roadmap slotChapterStatus on October 6
AprilThe AvengersShipped April 30 as "Chapter 1 of the Path to Doomsday"
JuneAge of UltronShipped July 30, later than planned
AugustInfinity WarNot launched; reported for Season 10.5
OctoberEndgameReported for Season 10.5

On the esports side, IGNITE Stage 2 playoffs start October 8 with the Pacific Series, and the final IGNITE Twitch drops, Cyclops - Will of Galacta plus esports items, go live October 15 at 11:00 UTC.

Still catching up on Season 10.0 itself? The Scarlet Witch rework, Black Cat and the Strategist ultimate charge changes are in our Season 10 changes guide, so we won't repeat them here.

What to do before Friday

Before Friday, check your match count in the Competitive rewards panel, finish your 10 matches, sit at Gold or higher when the half ends, and don't leave games early. Rather hand the grind off? Everything we run for the game is on the Marvel Rivals boosting page.
