How Does Marvel Rivals Proficiency Work?

Marvel Rivals features a hero-specific proficiency system that tracks your playtime and performance with each character. Every game you play earns proficiency points toward your selected hero, progressing through 70 levels and 11 distinct ranks. The system was reworked in Version 20260116 into a streamlined linear progression track, replacing the older system with a cleaner experience focused on rewarding dedicated play.

On average, players earn between 400 and 500 proficiency points per match, with games lasting around 12 minutes. Completing hero-specific missions and role objectives during matches can boost your point gains further. The total journey from Level 1 to the maximum Level 70 requires approximately 116,100 proficiency points, translating to roughly 125 to 150 hours of gameplay per hero.

Proficiency Ranks Explained

How to Earn Proficiency Points Fast

The most efficient way to earn proficiency points is to focus on a single hero and play consistently. Quick Match is the go-to mode for proficiency grinding because matches are shorter and queue times are faster. Completing hero-specific missions during your matches adds bonus points on top of the base amount earned from gameplay.

Playing your role effectively also helps. Vanguards who absorb damage and create space, Duelists who secure eliminations, and Strategists who keep their team alive all earn bonus points for fulfilling their role objectives. Special in-game events periodically offer proficiency point multipliers, so keep an eye on the event calendar for opportunities to accelerate your progression.

Proficiency Rewards

Every few levels, you unlock cosmetic rewards tied to the hero you are leveling. Rewards include Nameplates, Sprays, Titles, Avatars, Avatar Frames, Badges, KO Prompts, and Dynamic Avatars. Each hero's proficiency track also contains a total of 500 Unstable Molecules and 500 Units in currency rewards spread across the level range.

The most prestigious rewards unlock at higher levels. Reaching the Lord rank (Level 20+) grants the coveted Lord Icon avatar, while Champion-tier rewards (Level 50+) include exclusive Dynamic Avatars and high-tier Badges that visually distinguish dedicated players. With 48 heroes in the current Season 7 roster, completionists have a massive collection to work toward.
