Marvel Rivals Season 10 pre-queue guide

Key takeawaySuggested adjustment after launch
Scarlet Witch gains a mark-based damage and Bonus Health interaction.Practise marking targets, then positioning for the follow-up.
Dark Seal changes from repeated stuns to an opening stun and slow field.Give the initial hit and the lingering field separate jobs.
Black Cat can take damage during Phantom Pursuit.Check health, Fortune and return cover before committing.
Strategists gain less energy from equal eligible output.Call your actual ultimate charge before the next fight.

The announced Marvel Rivals Season 10 changes give returning Scarlet Witch, Black Cat and Strategist players specific habits to revisit. As of September 9, 2026, Season 10: Butcher's Blasphemy is scheduled for September 11 UTC, according to Dev Vision Vol. 21. The update is still upcoming.

This guide focuses on those three areas. The practice ideas below are editorial suggestions to try once the patch is available, with no claimed match testing behind them.

Scarlet Witch rework: place marks before following up

Scarlet Hex applies Chaos Marks, and Scarlet Witch gains personal Bonus Health by damaging marked enemies. That makes target preparation part of the Scarlet Witch rework. Landing a mark gives you something to follow up on; the next decision is where you can safely stand to deal that damage.

These selected details come from the September 11 balance post:

MechanicAnnounced detail
Scarlet Hex20m-long, 8m-wide rectangle; 40 damage and a Chaos Mark.
Personal Bonus HealthConverts 25% of marked-target damage, capped at 50.
Chaos Control85 → 75 damage/s; hits marked enemies equally within a forward 20m, 120-degree cone.

For a first exercise, try marking separated targets, then adjust your position and facing before using Chaos Control. Pay attention to which marked enemies fit inside the cone. A useful comparison is a narrow angle that includes one target versus a wider position that includes several, provided you can reach it safely.

Choose an angle you can hold without losing cover. More targets in view are useful only if you survive long enough to follow up.

Bonus Health belongs to Scarlet Witch. As a simple calculation, 200 eligible marked-target damage converts to 50 Bonus Health, reaching the stated cap if none is lost along the way. That is a personal buffer, not teammate healing or an unlimited pool.

For those exercises, check mark duration, removal and wall interactions in the updated client. The written notes leave those details unresolved.

Dark Seal: separate the stun from the slow

Dark Seal will stun on its initial detonation, then leave a damaging slow field that applies marks. Its selected values are 0.3 seconds of initial stun, 30% slow and 20 damage/s, with continuous marking inside the field. Those figures come from the official balance post.

The opening stun and the field need different timing decisions. For the stun, the relevant moment is detonation. For the field, placement matters over the time an enemy spends inside it.

Try these two exercises after release:

  • Place Dark Seal along an approaching enemy's route. Watch where they enter and leave the field.
  • Time the initial detonation against a specific action in a controlled practice setting. Check whether that interaction actually interrupts it.

That second exercise needs a concrete result before you depend on it in a match. A short stun does not establish a guaranteed interrupt against every ability.

Black Cat: plan the return before committing

Black Cat's Phantom Pursuit protection changes during the cast. Invincibility becomes 50% damage reduction plus Unstoppable. Helmet of Hades also leaves a visible movement trail and periodically reveals Black Cat, according to the balance announcement.

Damage reduction still allows damage through. Low health therefore deserves attention before you commit, even with Phantom Pursuit available. Unstoppable also gives you no basis to assume protection against every possible effect.

There is a resource adjustment alongside the protection change:

Fortune interactionBefore → announced
Phantom Pursuit cost300 → 250
Fortune gained on hit150 → 125

Both values come from the official balance post.

The listed on-hit gain remains half the cast cost: 150/300 before, 125/250 after. The cast becomes cheaper, but that ratio stays the same. Check the Fortune left after an attempt before planning another.

The official Black Cat ability page describes Phantom Pursuit returning her to its starting position. Its older protection wording is superseded by the new balance announcement. Before each practice engagement, identify that starting position and the nearest cover. Then check your remaining health and resource budget. If the return area becomes exposed, reconsider the attempt before chasing another hit.

Helmet of Hades also extends its duration and movement-boost decay from 2 to 3 seconds; footsteps become louder. Those additional announced changes accompany the visible trail and periodic reveals.

That route gives defenders information they may use. You can account for that without assuming everyone will track you perfectly. Try an exit that reaches cover, and compare how exposed you remain when you finish moving.

Strategist ultimate charge: check the actual meter

All Strategists' healing-to-energy conversion falls from 70% to 65%, while damage-to-energy conversion falls from 55% to 50%. Equal eligible healing or damage will therefore generate less energy under the announced global Strategist changes.

Marvel Rivals Season 10 Strategist energy conversion

Both coefficients fall five percentage points. Their relative reductions differ because they start from different values:

Equal eligible outputNew energy compared with old
Healing65 ÷ 70 ≈ 92.9%, about 7.1% less
Damage50 ÷ 55 ≈ 90.9%, about 9.1% less

These comparisons isolate equal eligible output. They do not predict a fixed number of seconds until your next ultimate.

Actual fights rarely preserve equal output. Teammates take different amounts of damage, targets move, and individual hero tuning also changes. For example, Jeff's Joyful Splash healing rises from 130 to 140/s, while Mantis's single Life Orb recharge rises from 3 to 4 seconds in the same balance post. For Jeff's healing stream, the coefficients alone give 130 × 0.70 = 91 before and 140 × 0.65 = 91 after, assuming every point of that healing is eligible. This is illustrative arithmetic, not a measured ultimate timer. It shows why a lower conversion rate does not by itself settle the effect of a simultaneous healing increase. Mantis's resource timing changes the conditions again.

For your first session, try making the charge callout earlier in your team's setup. Read the displayed percentage before anyone commits. If the defensive ultimate is unavailable, agree on a backup such as holding cover or delaying the engagement.

Keep healing decisions tied to teammates' needs. Chasing damage while someone needs help is a poor response to a smaller conversion coefficient.

A first-session practice checklist

Pick the exercise that matches your hero.

  1. Scarlet Witch: mark targets, change your angle and check your follow-up coverage.
  2. Dark Seal: practise field placement separately from initial-stun timing.
  3. Black Cat: name your return position before engaging, then inspect health and Fortune afterward.
  4. Strategist: call your actual ultimate charge before a fight and choose a backup if it is unavailable.

After each attempt, write down the specific problem you noticed. “I turned away from a marked target” or “my return position had no cover” gives your next attempt a clear purpose. A win or loss alone tells you much less about the decision you were practising.

If you also want progression from that session, check the mode's current eligibility. The older Practice vs AI proficiency guide explains why practising mechanics and earning Hero Proficiency need separate checks. Don't assume AI practice grants proficiency.

You can use the Marvel Rivals proficiency tracker as an optional progression-planning tool afterward.

Frequently asked questions

When does Marvel Rivals Season 10 release?

Season 10 is announced for September 11, 2026 UTC. As of September 9, it is upcoming. The text of Dev Vision Vol. 21 gives the date without a launch hour.

Do the patch notes establish the best Season 10 hero?

They provide announced tuning, without establishing a best hero. Choose a familiar hero for your first practice session, check the changed interactions, and judge specific decisions before drawing wider conclusions about strength.
