The Finals Season 12 is called Prime Time, and it launches on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Embark has shown it one video at a time since October 1, there's still a gameplay trailer to come on October 15, and the game turns three this December. So what time does it go live? What's new, what's still secret, and what should you wrap up in Season 11 first? No one outside the studio has played Prime Time, so anything past the official reveals is marked as an expectation.

The Finals Season 12 Prime Time

When does The Finals Season 12 start?

Prime Time goes live on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Embark set the date in its A New Chapter post, the roadmap lists it, and every Prime Time video description repeats it. The date is fixed. The hour isn't out yet.

There is a pattern, but it's not a promise. Embark's launch posts for the last two seasons went up at 13:01 UTC (Season 11, July 9) and 14:01 UTC (Season 10, March 26). Prime Time could land around then, or not, so don't plan your day around an exact time.

Season 11 ends when Prime Time replaces it, and Embark hasn't posted a separate end time. Treat October 20 as the cutoff and don't leave anything for the last few hours. The Finals stays free to play on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it's got cross-play and cross-progression.

Prime Time dates to know

Each reveal video went up at 9:00 PT (16:00 UTC). Here's the calendar up to launch.

The Finals Season 12 countdown to October 20

The Galaxies Showcase on October 15

Embark's Galaxies Showcase post puts the show on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 9:00 PM CEST, 12:00 PM PT and 3:00 PM ET, which is 19:00 UTC. Embark says the show will give a first look at the new gameplay trailer for Prime Time.

There are Twitch drops during the show. Link your Twitch account and Embark ID, then watch for 30 minutes to get the Cash Pending Sticker and 45 minutes to get the Deposit Slip Spray. Co-streamers with Drops enabled can give out the drop too, so a co-stream works if you're watching one anyway.

The Infiltrator: the new Light Playstyle

What's a Playstyle, again? Embark's Playstyles post from August 2025 explains them. Playstyles arrived in Season 8 as pre-made Contestant templates. Each one combines one specialization, one weapon and two gadgets into "a recognizable style of play", and starter items fill the rest of the loadout. You can still build your own anyway.

Light has three: Scout, Assassin and Duelist. Medium and Heavy have four each. Medium has the Medic, Engineer, Hacker and Aerialist (added in Season 10), and Heavy has the Guardian, Demolisher, Enforcer and Strategist. Design Director Matt Lowe says "it's finally the turn of the Light archetype to receive its fourth Playstyle, bringing it in line with the Medium and Heavy archetypes."

In the Infiltrator video, Lowe describes it as "An expert in disguise, manipulation and detection, that keeps opponents constantly guessing in the Arena." True Sight "sets up the core of the Playstyle", and the Mimic Device and the Translocator "round out the loadout".

ItemTypeWhat Embark says it doesNot published yet
True SightSpecialization, a rework of Thermal VisionA vision mode that highlights enemy players and deployables, shows cloaked players even when they're disguised, sees through smoke and drains an energy meter while it's onEnergy amount, drain rate
Mimic DeviceGadgetScan any prop and temporarily disguise yourself as it; it can copy what some props do tooDuration, cooldown
TranslocatorGadgetMark an object, then swap places with it when you activate it, as long as it's in rangeRange, cooldown

Embark hasn't shown the Infiltrator's weapon, the rest of its loadout or any health value yet.

The Finals Infiltrator True Sight, Mimic Device and Translocator

True Sight

True Sight is "a rework and reimagining of 'Thermal Vision', which has been out of rotation since Season 8." Lowe says it is much more reliable than Thermal Vision across different lighting conditions and environments, and it keeps the view around you clear. It also "clearly shows the team colours of highlighted enemies and items", so you can track who you're fighting without switching it on and off. The limit is energy: "While active, True Sight slowly drains an energy meter. So use it wisely." The meter size and drain rate are still unknown.

Who should worry? Assassins, going by Embark's descriptions. That's our reading, not a tested result. Embark's site says the Assassin "Specializes in cloaking and close-range combat", and the Season 11 notes say stealth should support "a more 'hide and seek' playstyle". True Sight sees cloaked and disguised players, so Assassins and other Infiltrators get fewer places to hide. It also sees through environmental smoke and smoke grenades.

Mimic Device

The Mimic Device is "a handheld tool that allows you to scan any prop in the level and temporarily disguise yourself as that item." Use it to get away from enemies or sneak up on an objective. It's a lot more than a costume though, because it can copy what some props do. Lowe gives two examples: disguise yourself as a gas canister and let teammates propel you to high ground, or become a healing barrel and roll around.

Lowe gives a couple of warnings too. "The effect of these props can be triggered by taking damage, so make sure you don't accidentally set your teammates on fire." And: "steer clear of any enemy holding a Data Reshaper. The consequences of being reshaped are not pretty." The Data Reshaper is a Medium gadget that's part of the Hacker Playstyle. That makes a disguise a gamble against any team running one, and True Sight users can see disguised players too.

Translocator

The Translocator is "A teleportation device that allows you to swap positions with another object in the world." You mark an object, like a prop, and nothing happens until you activate it. Then "you will immediately swap position with the target, as long as it remains within range." Lowe gives three examples:

  • Mark an enemy turret that's locking down the objective, and translocate it out of the room.
  • Tag a gas canister, throw it at the enemy, then swap places with it.
  • Load a fuel can with Breach Charges, swap it into the enemy "and let it do the work".

Range and cooldown aren't out yet. Range definitely matters for all three tricks, but nobody outside Embark knows the number. So where does the Infiltrator sit next to Scout, Assassin and Duelist? On paper it's the Light Playstyle that finds hidden players, hides in plain sight and moves things around, with each item doing its own job. That's a reading of Embark's descriptions, not a match result.

The biggest destruction update since launch

In the Dynamism Upgrade video, Embark calls this "the biggest update to the destruction system since its launch". Roman, who works on the dynamism tech, and senior designer Tim walk through it. It's basically a new layer in how buildings break.

Right now, destruction is a physics simulation on Embark's servers with two layers: a building-integrity layer called "Strain", and general physics for chunks falling apart. A piece of a building is either static and solid or fully detached and falling, with nothing in between.

Prime Time adds a middle layer called gradual destruction. When Strain breaks a piece, gradual destruction makes a loose, dynamic attachment between the detached pieces, so they "hinge, swing, twist and bend and form interconnected chains and nets". Buildings won't really come down all at once anymore. Expect "ramped floors, twisted corridors, deformed rooms, and sagging sections of levels". Suspended structures can swing and then collapse into the building. Collapses also get new effects and audio: crumbling dust, creaking buildings and debris that forms new piles.

Two more changes affect every fight:

  • Blast waves. Explosions from players' weapons now push walls, bend ceilings "and sometimes even launch pieces of roof into the sky".
  • Smoke and gas. Gameplay smoke and poison gas clouds now follow the shape of the changing environment and no longer affect you through walls. Explosions can suppress parts of a cloud for a brief window.

A New Chapter adds that "A damaged floor might sag into the floor below, giving you a moment to react and leaving a new route between floors behind it." Pieces from a bigger collapse "can become new surfaces to move and fight across", and Embark worked on visual cues as well, so you can see a collapse coming and react.

These are expectations only though, based on Embark's descriptions and not on play:

  • Cashout rooms should be harder to seal completely, because floors and walls give way gradually.
  • Sagging floors should open new routes into a Cashout room.
  • Players who use explosives get more control over how a building comes apart.
  • True Sight seeing through smoke matters more now that smoke behaves more predictably.

Monaco, Seoul and Skyway Stadium get reworked

Prime Time starts with some of the first Arenas: Monaco, Seoul and Skyway Stadium. In the Maps video, presented by World Director Joakim Stigsson, Embark says other maps get their turn "in the upcoming seasons". The focus is on "bigger impactful gameplay changes in key locations rather than small tweaks across the board". The changes are:

  • New spaces and landmarks, plus reworked existing areas
  • Improved sightlines and new traversal options
  • Revisited lighting, tone mapping and color grading
  • New and updated props, materials and set dressing
  • A distinct sponsor for each map, "with its own colour language and visual identity"

A New Chapter sums it up: "The result is that the Arenas you know will look better, read more clearly, and play differently." It hasn't published which spots changed on each map, so we won't guess at layouts nobody outside the studio has seen.

A new HUD, cleaner menus and the Sponsor Journey

In the HUD and UI rework video, UX Director Linda Hovde starts with readability. Text "that was too small to catch mid-fight" gets easier to read. She says the game still looks like The Finals, it's just easier to read. You'll be able to scale the HUD, and Embark considered ultrawide monitors too.

A new side panel shows key information and actions while the match stays visible, so you get back into the game faster. Its Quick Settings tab puts volume, quality and sensitivity "only seconds away". You pick what it shows from the settings screen, and the same panel sits in the same place across the menus.

The main menu is cleaner, "more on brand" and less intrusive. The actions people use most are the easiest to reach, and there's new navigation on both PC and console.

Embark also says sponsors become "a core part of your experience as a Contestant. You're competing for someone". The Season 11 notes already warned that "Sponsors as you know them are going to change in Season 12, with the current Sponsor system and reward tracks being replaced with something new, more involved and more engaging." The roadmap calls it the New Sponsor Journey, but Embark hasn't shown how it works. It also hasn't detailed the Reworked Match Presentation, which changes "how Contestants, teams and Arenas are introduced, as well as how the show looks, feels and unfolds while you're playing".

What Embark hasn't revealed yet

What's the new Mode called? How does the Sponsor Journey work? Does Light stay at 150 health? As of October 12, Embark has answered none of these.

  • The new Mode. It's on the roadmap and promised in A New Chapter, but it has no name or rules yet.
  • The New Sponsor Journey. No details yet.
  • Balance. No weapon or gadget numbers yet, though A New Chapter says balance and performance "have both had serious attention".
  • Ranked, Battle Pass and timing. No Season 12 ranked changes, Battle Pass contents, prices or start hour.

Then there's Respec Order 3.0, a Cashout-only test that ran from update 11.10 (September 17) until update 11.12 (October 1). Light went from 150 to 175 health, with a longer health regen delay (7s to 8s) and slower movement: sprint dropped from 7 m/s to 6.6 m/s, for example. Heavy went from 350 to 325 health and moved faster, with sprint going from 5.8 m/s to 6 m/s.

Embark asked players: "Should the health and movement changes of Respec Order be permanent?" It said it hopes "to make a decision one way or another by the launch of Season 12." Nothing has been announced. Embark's numbers from the second test, in update 10.12: about 70,000 survey responses averaging 3.01 out of 5, and a win-rate spread between the best and worst squad compositions that fell from 14.7% to 12%. If the changes stick, Light gains 25 health but moves slower, and Heavy loses 25 health but moves faster.

Everything else on the official roadmap is confirmed, even though a few lines, like the footsteps rework and the performance improvements, have no details yet.

What to finish in Season 11 before October 20

What runs out first? What's gone on the 20th? And which bits are worth your evenings this week? Here's the list, in the order things run out.

WhatWhat to doDeadline
Raking Coins Twitch dropsWatch anyone playing The Finals with Drops enabled: 1 hour for the Forage Fortune Charm, 2 hours for the Seed Money Earrings, 4 hours for the Havoc Raker SledgehammerOctober 15
Battle PassUse Apogee XP to fill missing tiers; the Premium pass has up to 106 rewardsEnd of Season 11 (October 20)
Diamond tokensReach Diamond 4 for one token and Diamond 1 for a secondOctober 20
World Tour leaguesReach the league you want; Diamond 4 guarantees the Diamond league rewards; Emerald 3, 2 and 1 pay one, two and three coinsOctober 20
Sponsor tracksFinish any track you care about before the system is replacedOctober 20

Apogee XP gives up to 200% XP from Daily Contracts and up to 150% XP and fans from gameplay until Season 11 ends, according to Update 11.12.0. Embark calls it "perfect to complete any missing tiers in your Battle Pass". If you're a bit short on time, Season 11 Battle Pass boosting covers levels up to 106, standard or bonus. The Season 8 pass came back on the legacy roster in Season 11, but Embark hasn't said anything about the Season 11 pass, so don't bank on a second chance.

According to the Season 11 patch notes, you can earn two Diamond tokens this season, one for Diamond 4 and one for Diamond 1. Ranked also adds a personal performance bonus to Ranked Score. It's much bigger at lower tiers (Embark points to Silver and Gold) and very small near the top. Need a hand getting there before the 20th? The Finals rank boosting takes you to the league you pick, like Platinum or Diamond, with a play-along option.

In World Tour you receive a league's reward for reaching that league, not for climbing to its top. World Tour boosting takes you from your current badge and tier to your target, up to Emerald.

Sponsors are the odd one out. Embark says the current reward tracks get replaced in Season 12, and it hasn't said what happens to unfinished ones. Our advice, not Embark's: finish any track you care about now. Season 11 cut the total fans needed for a Sponsor's full set of rewards by around 50%, which makes it more doable than before. Sponsor Showdown is back too: pick a Sponsor, play any mode and race to the top of a fans leaderboard.

Ranked in Season 12: placements and rewards

Will Ranked change in Prime Time? Will placements work the same way? Embark hasn't announced any Season 12 ranked changes, so everything below describes the current rules.

Each Ranked season starts with placement matches, and since Season 10 they can put you anywhere up to Platinum. In Season 11, Embark also changed how placement calibrates players at the start of a season. If you'd rather not play them yourself, The Finals ranked placement boosting completes your remaining placement matches, anywhere from one to four.

The Season 10 patch notes added a duo rule: duos more than 10,000 Ranked Score apart can't queue Ranked together. It doesn't apply in placements or to parties of three.

The reward split follows Embark's ranked rewards post from December 2025:

  • Gold, Platinum and Diamond weapon skin rewards stay in Ranked. They're paid as coins, so you pick the skin for the weapon you want.
  • Diamond player emblems stay in Ranked.
  • Ruby rewards go to the Top 500.
  • Charms, stickers, Emerald-tier rewards and Multibucks come from World Tour, which every mode progresses, including Ranked Cashout.

Want to check where you stand before Season 11 closes? The Finals leaderboard and Ruby cutoff shows today's Ruby cutoff, the live top 10,000 Ranked leaderboard and a player lookup. To compare every option side by side, The Finals boosting lists Ranked, World Tour, Battle Pass, placement and event challenge boosts in one place.
